WUI & Structure Ignition

A technical route from wildfire exposure to building ignition, vulnerability and structure-to-structure spread.
Core question

Why do structures ignite during wildfires, and which pathways can be altered before the fire arrives?

How Tecnobosque frames the subject

Wildland–urban interface loss is not explained by distance to vegetation alone. Embers can travel ahead of the flame front, accumulate in receptive locations and enter openings; radiant and convective heat can challenge vulnerable components; combustible attachments and near-structure fuels can bridge exposure to the building; and burning structures can become sources for further structure-to-structure spread. The useful engineering question is therefore not simply “How close is the fire?” but “What exposure reaches which receptor, for how long, and with what resistance?”
