How fast can a wildfire spread?

There is no single wildfire speed: forward spread depends on fuel, moisture, wind, slope, fire shape and the behaviour mode being measured.
Short answer

Rate of spread is a distance-per-time quantity, but its value only makes sense with direction, fuel bed, weather, terrain and time attached. The head fire usually advances faster than flanks or backing fire. Spot fires can make effective incident growth appear discontinuous because new ignitions occur ahead of the main front. Wind changes flame angle and convective transfer; fuel moisture changes availability; transitions to crown fire can change behaviour regime.
