Riverside · Incident start: April 3, 2026
East of Moreno Valley, zone MOE-0823 first appeared under a warning and was later upgraded to an order. Countywide summaries obscure that change: a resident’s official status depended on the zone and the time of the bulletin.
What the incident record shows
While the initial acreage estimates rose, officials announced a shelter at Valley View High School. Later mapping put the footprint at 4,176 acres. When the spread had stopped and containment stood at 95%, all orders and warnings were lifted. The announcement of full containment came separately on April 8.
Reading the figures
The CAL FIRE incident summary updated April 17, 2026 lists 4,176 acres and 100% containment. These are historical reporting figures.
The opening of a shelter documents provision of a service. It gives no count of people who used it, just as an order covering a zone cannot be converted into a household evacuation count.
