Developing analysis · Record 011
Mineral Fire,
Iowa Hill.
A dated record of the Placer County wildfire west of Iowa Hill, including evacuation warning status, changing acreage and the unusual operational delay caused by a concurrent law-enforcement incident.
Latest reviewed snapshot.
The CAL FIRE active-incidents index reviewed on 24 September lists the Mineral Fire at 19 acres and 60% containment. Earlier incident updates preserved on the record show the progression from 5 acres / 0% to 18 acres and later containment growth.
Why firefighters initially could not engage.
CAL FIRE reported on 21 September that an armed and dangerous suspect was being sought near Mineral Bar Campground. Firefighters were staged rather than entering while the law-enforcement situation remained active. CAL FIRE later reported that the situation had been resolved and crews were moving in to engage the vegetation fire.
Remote sensing preserved situational awareness.
During the period when ground crews could not safely enter, CAL FIRE said fire activity was being monitored by remote sensing aircraft at high elevation. This is a useful example of how incident intelligence can continue even when direct ground access is constrained.
